What is Iron Beam?

Iron Beam is a directed energy laser air defense system designed to supplement the Iron Dome missile defense systems placed in Israel. The system uses a high-energy fiber optic laser to crash airborne objects within four to five seconds of firing. Current power levels of the lasers are in the tens of kilowatts and are expected to increase for greater devastating capability.

Who created Iron Dome/Beam?

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems was developed the system. Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the developer of the system has said that analysis data shows a success rate of more than 90%.

Consists of Iron Beam

The system includes of an air defense radar, control unit and a command, and two High Energy Laser (HEL) systems. It is designed to target short-range rockets, mortars, and artillery.

It was first published to the public at the 2014 Air Show in Singapore.

Strategic Imputations

 Iron Beam will be used to accompaniment the Iron Dome system by targeting threats that fly on too short a trajectory for Iron Dome to interrupt. Because it uses directed energy fighter aircrafts, the system will cost less to handle than a conventional kinetic option would. Other benefits include an unlimited organization, lower operational costs, and less required worker.
